During my first trip to London, I was fortunate enough to have an entire day free of meetings to go exploring. First on the To-Do List: a Regency Walking Tour that I put together before leaving the States.
It was a very exciting and moving experience to visit the places I enjoy reading and writing about. If you’ve come to my website, you probably also love Regency England, so please enjoy the photos!
I was staying in the City for work, so my journey started with a walk down Fleet Street to Piccadilly Circus, where my Regency adventure began:
First stop was St. George’s and Hanover Square:
I rambled along Upper Brook Street to Grosvenor Square:
And then took a stroll down Park Lane, across from Hyde Park. Sadly, I didn’t go in to the park as my journey took me towards Parliament and Buckingham Palace. (Sigh–Luxury problems.)
I wound my way back towards Savile Row and Bond Street, though sadly forgot to take pictures.
My journey down Bond Street ended with a short left on Piccadilly, where I spent a delightful hour wandering around Hatchard’s Book Store:
Where I promptly found these little gems:
After a good couple hours getting lost among several stories of books(!), I made my way next door to Fortnum & Mason for proper afternoon tea:
Now refreshed by some tea, I rambled down St. James Street to Number 37: White’s.
And then over to King Street, to the former sight of Almack’s:
Here is where my Regency Tour winds to an end, as I left Westminster and St. James for Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Parliament before my feet gave out. In all, my Regency Walking Tour was around 3 miles starting at Regent Street.
Hope you enjoyed the photos!
